The auction is for the exact fireplace pictured above. The sample installation pictures below are provided as a reference to prospective auction buyers of the above set. I will try to give some details with the pictures. There are several ways to install these sets, and the pictures below represent just one way your tile contractor may do your installation. The pictures were taken during a recent installation of a set in the same dimensions and design..
The set below is the same as the one at auction, except the one pictured in the installation pictures is brown marble. This is the start of our installation, with the 10 piece brown marble fireplace set laid out on the left. Here is a close-up of the 10 pieces in the set. Here the sides have been built out with a 2x4 and plywood and concrete board is installed over that. A little flexible thinset is used to attach the left inside return. With the inside returns attached, it is time to install the uprights. And then the cross piece is installed at the top, again using flexible thinset. We are done for the day. We let this set up for 24 hours before we started again (next morning) With the frame installed, it is time to install the mantle on the top, and side returns. A little grout can be applied now to the front too, since it is already set. We let the grout dry for 24 hours, then we clean the set, and apply a sealant to protect the stone from staining (contact us for details - we'll put you in touch with our supplier). In the pictures below the set is finished. It has been mortared in, cleaned and sealed, and back caulked to the wall with high temperature caulk. Your results and procedure may differ substantially, depending on what type of firebox you have. For example, your installer may choose to modify the pieces to fit your installation. |
